A Minto man was sentenced to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.
Tommie McGinley, 34, was arrested in May 2024 after members of the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit, the Western District RCMP and RCMP Digital Forensic Services executed a warrant at a residence on Bridge Street in Minto.
McGinley was arrested at the scene and police seized several electronic devices.
The investigation began in September 2023 after information was received by the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
McGinley appeared in Fredericton provincial court on Jan. 9, 2025, and was charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
He pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 29.
McGinley was sentenced Jan. 29 to 18 months.
Additionally, he was ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry and to provide a DNA sample.
Once he’s released, he’ll be subject to a set of conditions laid out by the court for three years.
