The Time the Internet Named a Menu Item (Chicken Roulette Edition) – Kim’s K Chicken
There’s something special about walking into a restaurant during its first week open. The paint still smells fresh, the staff is finding their rhythm, and the owner is running on caffeine, adrenaline, and pure hope.
That’s exactly when I visited Kim’s K Chicken in Dieppe — and I wasn’t prepared for how good it was.
If you’ve never had Korean fried chicken, this is the perfect place to start. Everything is made fresh and in-house. No shortcuts. No frozen tricks. Just seriously dialed-in food. The chicken is crisp without being greasy, the flavours are bold but balanced, and every bite feels intentional.

And behind it all is Chef Kim, who might be one of the hardest-working people I’ve met in a kitchen. After service, when most people are thinking about going home, Kim is still there — deboning chickens by hand, sourcing the freshest produce, and hunting down the best ingredients he can find. This isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a craft.
Now here’s where things got fun.
In the video I posted, Kim brought out an assortment of four or five different styles of chicken — all on a spinning wheel. On the spot, I called it “Chicken Roulette.” No plan. No branding meeting. Just a moment.
The internet ran with it.
The video took off, and suddenly people were walking into Kim’s K Chicken asking, “Can I get the Chicken Roulette?” Over and over again. So much so that Kim did the only logical thing: he added it to the menu. That’s right — a menu item born purely from community hype and a spontaneous video moment.

But here’s the thing — don’t just go for the fried chicken (even though you absolutely should). Kim’s menu goes deep. There are classic Korean dishes, comforting ramens, and chicken burgers that deserve way more attention than they get. Everything I tried hit. No weak links.
This is why I love supporting local businesses. Sometimes it’s about exposure. Sometimes it’s about storytelling. And sometimes… it’s about accidentally naming a dish that becomes permanent.
Kim’s K Chicken didn’t just open strong — it opened with heart, hustle, and a spinning wheel of chicken that the community refused to forget.
And honestly? That’s a pretty great way to start.
