No major changes in N.B. wildfires, fire ban remains in effect

Wildfire conditions across New Brunswick have seen minimal change since Saturday morning.

The Department of Natural Resources reported 16 active wildfires on Saturday at 5:45 p.m.

Ten are being patrolled, four are contained, and two remain out of control.

The out-of-control fires include the Beaver Lake Stream fire, located west of Red Bank, which has burned 238 hectares.

The other is the Rocky Brook fire, northwest of Bathurst, currently at 184 hectares.

The Oldfield Road fire near Miramichi, which had been a major concern earlier in the week, remains contained at 1,400 hectares.

All recreational activities on Crown land remain prohibited, and the province-wide fire ban is still in effect.

Officials are asking residents to avoid travelling in affected areas unless necessary, to allow emergency crews to work safely.

Authorities continue to remind the public to stay informed and follow all restrictions to help prevent new wildfires
