A former prime minister is being honoured by Mount Allison University.
Jean Chrétien has been awarded an honorary degree in recognition of his profound contributions to public life, philanthropy, and their enduring mark on Mount Allison University and beyond.
He was recognized during special ceremonies held earlier this week.
Chrétien was first elected to the House of Commons in 1963.
He became the leader of the Liberal party and official opposition in 1990, and served as an MP for the Beausejour riding.
Following that, he was elected as the 20th prime minister and served from 1993 to 2003.
Beatrice ‘Bea’ Crawford, who is a dedicated philanthropist with a commitment to education, was also recognized with an honorary degree during the same ceremonies.
“The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien and Bea Crawford have contributed immensely to the betterment of our society and the Mount Allison community,” says President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ian Sutherland. “Through public service, philanthropy, and deep personal commitment, they have both demonstrated the values that define Mount Allison University — community, leadership, compassion, and a drive to make a difference.”
