Former Shediac mayor passes away

The community of Shediac is mourning the death of a longtime leader.

Michel Leger passed away suddenly on Friday at the age of 77.

He was elected five times as mayor and served from 1980 to 1995.

He was also an active member of the Rotary Club.

“It is with sadness that our community learned of the death of Michel C. Leger, former mayor of the Town of Shediac,” said Roger Caissie, mayor of the municipality. “Elected five times, he is the mayor who served the Town of Shediac the longest in our history.”

Visitation will take place at Passage Chartersville Funeral Home, located at 363 Amirault Street in Dieppe, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., as well as on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, located at 415 Main Street in Shediac, starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Flags in the community are being flown at half mast until Thursday.
