Recruitment is expected to get underway soon to form a healthcare advocacy committee in Riverview.
The goal is to work towards an expansion of services for residents.
Mayor Andrew Leblanc says they have a few people in mind who would be beneficial, “There are some folks we’d like to see probably approached. We want some representation from different practitioners in different fields, and we’ll see what that looks like as we move forward.”
The Committee will be appointed by the Mayor and will consist of non-partisan representatives who will work collaboratively with community partners to improve access to healthcare services in Riverview. That includes primary care, urgent care, and other essential health services.
It’s hoped the committee, which will have between 6 and 10 members, will help strengthen existing services and support the recruitment and retention of additional healthcare professionals.
It will report to Council at least once a year, to enable information to be shared with with public, provincial government and local MLAs.
A recommendation to approve the Proposed Terms of Reference was passed at Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
Recruitment is expected to begin after formal approval at the Regular Town Council Meeting in July.
