Moncton Fire battles blaze in vacant High Street home

Fire has extensively damaged an abandoned home on High Street.

Moncton Fire arrived at the two-and-a-half-storey home at around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Platoon Chief Brian McDonald says the front of the residence was burning.

“Three fire trucks responded and hose lines were stretched. The fire, which appeared to have originated on the exterior of the home, extended into the house. Firefighters made an aggressive attack, went inside, opened up the walls and ceilings, and just essentially dug out the fire,” McDonald says.

Firefighters were on scene for around two hours. There was no one inside, and no one was hurt.

The cause is still being determined.

McDonald couldn’t say whether or not the home will be torn down.
