Extensive smoke and water damage at St. George Boulevard business

Cleanup is underway at a St. George Boulevard business after a fire.

An employee from Fancy Pokket called 911 just before 6 pm Monday to report machinery on fire.

“On arrival, there was heavy smoke in the building. The employees had evacuated. The fire was contained to their production area with their sprinkler system. The building was extensively damaged by water and smoke,” Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Paul Bruens told our newsroom.

Firefighters were at the business for around two hours, managing to contain the flames to the production area.

“The sprinkler system assisted us greatly in extinguishing the fire. What was challenging was the potential for electrical shock from the energized equipment to the firefighters,” Bruens added.

Everyone managed to get out safely.

There’s no word on a cause of the fire yet.
