L’Université de Moncton’s delegation is getting ready for the 2025 Jeux franco-canadiens de la communication (Communication Games), happening in Montreal.
The event starts on Saturday and runs until next Wednesday, featuring 12 communication-related events such as journalism, advertising, marketing, and performing arts.
Emilie David, a fourth-year journalism major, is competing for the third time. She is also one of the head delegates alongside Myriam Breau and Manon Menoret.
David explained that l’Université de Moncton is the only university from New Brunswick and the Atlantic region in this competition.
The Communication Games started in 1996 to help students apply what they learn in real-world situations.
This year marks the 29th edition, with 10 universities taking part, including those from Quebec and Ottawa.
“It brings you into real-world situations that are so valuable to what you learn in class,” David said.
L’Université de Moncton has been part of this competition since it started in 1996.
Their delegation of about 30 students will compete in various challenges such as music video creation, cultural shows, hockey match descriptions, fiction scenario writing, festival promotion, publicity creation, podcasting, radio musical shows, crisis management, government announcements, journalism capsules, and sports like darts.
“We hold auditions in September and have our whole delegation by mid to end October. Delegates start working on their concepts and competitions, and we hold general practices to get students into the mindset of the games,” David said.
She also talked about the rewards of participating. In 2023, the team won a gold medal, and in 2024, they won two gold medals in different challenges.
“For people in marketing, it’s a super experience. For us in journalism, we get to experience the studios of Montreal and record in real podcast studios,” she said.
David said she is hopeful for this year’s competition and emphasized the experience and camaraderie gained through participation.
