5 arrested after home invasion in Sussex

Two men have been charged and three other people arrested following a home invasion and theft in Sussex.

RCMP responded to a report about two people breaking into a home on Oxford Street with a firearm on December 28.

Police say the suspects demanded a wallet and a phone and later fled in a stolen vehicle, which had been involved in an earlier theft at a local business.

Officers arrested five people after the vehicle allegedly crashed into a ditch on Parlee Brook Road in Waterford.

Several stolen items and weapons were recovered from the vehicle, including a conducted energy weapon, a homemade shotgun, bear spray, ammunition, an air pistol, knives, and face masks.

A 36-year-old from Sussex is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Failure to comply with a release order
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order
  • Being unlawfully in a dwelling house
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Theft over $5,000

A 35-year-old from Saint John is facing charges of resisting or obstructing a police officer, flight from police, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

RCMP said the two suspects facing charges have appeared in court and were remanded into custody.

A 39-year-old woman from Saint John was held in custody on an unrelated matter and will appear in court at a later date. A 36-year-old man from Saint John also has a future court date.

The fifth person arrested, a 33-year-old woman from New Line, was later released.
