UPDATE: Weather cancels Greater Moncton Santa Claus parade

Jolly Old Saint Nick will not be making a visit to the Hub City this weekend after all.

Organizers of the annual Greater Moncton Santa Claus parade have cancelled Saturday’s event.

“Due to the expected heavy amounts of rain and high winds that are forecasted for tomorrow Saturday, November 23rd, the majority of the float entries have withdrawn from the parade,” organizers said in a social media post at 3:40 p.m. Friday.

“From participants to organizers, the primary concern is the safety of all participants, spectators, sponsors and volunteers, this decision was not made lightly.”

Forecasters are calling for up to 30 millimetres of rain on Saturday and winds gusting to around 60 kilometres per hour.

Organizers said there will not be an alternate date for the parade this year.
