Federal funding for housing projects in N.B.

Federal funding will help create more housing options for those in need in New Brunswick.

Over $25 million is being provided to help build 197 new homes and repair 11 existing homes.

Eleven projects will benefit, including the Community Hub on Joyce Avenue in Moncton.

It will receive over $287,000 to help with the ongoing construction of the centre.

The John Howard Society will run the centre, providing apartments to 20 single men.

They are facing barriers or mental health challenges including addiction, legalities or homelessness.

“These programs mean more New Brunswickers have access to safe, affordable homes. We’ll keep working with our local partners to create liveable communities, address the housing crisis, and bring real solutions to Canadians,” said Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe MP Ginette Petitpas Taylor.

Over $152,000 will also be provided to Second Stage Housing in St. Stephen. It allows women and their children who have experienced domestic violence to work toward personal and economic independence.

Doors of Hope Second Stage Project, run by Sussex Vale Transition House will also receive over $653,000 from this federal funding.

“We know that housing is a big concern for Canadians. There’s a huge need, right across the board, to build more housing – housing of all types, suitable for people with a range of different incomes,” said Beausejour MP Dominic LeBlanc.

“The investments announced will deliver exactly that and offer more New Brunswickers a safe and affordable place to call home.”
