Escaped inmate located and back in custody in Saint John

An escaped inmate from Saint John Regional Correctional Centre has now been arrested.

Saint John police said they responded to the jail on Old Black River Road around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the inmate was seen squeezing through the fence and eventually evading capture of pursuing corrections officers.

“Patrol officers were able to promptly respond to the area, establishing a large perimeter and set up vehicle checkpoints,” said the release.

“Additional officers coordinated their efforts to conduct a thorough search of the vicinity using a drone as well as a Canine Unit.”

Saint John Police says the inmate was located on Sunday evening and taken into custody.
