Online photos lead police to prohibited firearms in Moncton home

Pictures of firearms on social media led the RCMP to an arrest in Moncton.

Codiac RCMP Superintendent Benoit Jolette says information was first received from a concerned citizen on November 29, “Our members began an investigation and, using various techniques, were able to identify the suspect using an address here in Moncton.”

Officers searched the home last week.

“This past December 10, a search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence on Teaberry Avenue. During a search, two prohibited semi-automatic rifles, two shotguns and other replica firearms were seized,” Jolette added.

A 28-year-old is facing several charges. Jolette says Homeland Security was also contacted regarding cross-border visits by the suspect between Canada and the United States.
