Remembrance Day ceremonies in Greater Moncton and surrounding areas

Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held across the tri-communities on Tuesday.

The largest at the Moncton Coliseum, starting at 10:30 am.

It includes the laying of wreaths by a large contingency, including local dignitaries and service members.

There is also a moment of silence, which is held every year on November 11th, marking the end of the First World War.

In Riverview, Remembrance Day ceremonies are held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at 10:50 am. Veterans will queue at the Dan Bohan Centre to march into the church alongside fire and police personnel, local cadets, guides and scouts.

For those unable to attend the ceremony, the cenotaph outside of Riverview Town Hall is a popular location to pay respects to veterans and can often be found covered in poppies on November 11.

Ceremonies in Dieppe are at Ecole Mathieu Martin with a parade beginning at 10:30 am.

The parade, made up of veterans, cadets and members of the RCMP, will form up at 10:30 a.m. and will make its way indoors for the ceremony that commemorates the signing of the Armistice, formalizing the end of World War I in 1918.

A reception will follow at the Dieppe Golden Age Club on Acadie Avenue.

Also in Moncton, a service including the release of the white doves and the laying of poppies at the Victoria Park cenotaph at 10:30 am.

The Sunny Brae Legion also hosts its own services with a parade of service members and others who march to Sunny Brae Park on Massey Avenue. Services begin at 11 am.

There will be a few street closures for the Remembrance Day parade to the Sunny Brae Cenotaph.

At around 10:45 am on Tuesday, traffic will be held at Broadway Street, Massey Avenue and Peter Streets to allow the procession to make its way from the Sunny Brae Legion to the Remembrance Day ceremony.

At around noon, once the ceremony has ended, traffic will be held again to allow the procession to return to the Sunny Brae Legion.

Each procession will last around 15 minutes.

In Shediac, a section of Main Street will be closed between Weldon and Comeau Street for Remembrance Day events at Pascal Poirier Park from 10 am until noon.

The Royal Canadian Air Force will be conducting a flypast for Remembrance Day commemorations, which includes a CP-140 Aurora that will do a flyover in Shediac.

If you live in Hillsborough, a parade will start at the Hillsborough Kiwanis Community Centre at 10:30 am.

For those who want to attend services in Salisbury, please meet at the Legion at 10:00 a.m. From there, you’ll head to the cenotaph.

In the community of Cap-Acadie, Remembrance Day will be held with a mass beginning at 10 am at Ste-Thérèse Church in Cap-Pelé, followed by a commemorative ceremony at the municipal building.
