5 New Brunswickers honoured with province’s top award

Five people from New Brunswick have received the Order of New Brunswick.

This honour is given to those who have made important contributions to the province and beyond.

Lieutenant‑Governor Louise Imbeault, who serves as chancellor of the order, presided over the ceremony at Government House in Fredericton.

“It is an honour to recognize the latest recipients of the Order of New Brunswick,” Imbeault said in a government release.

“They are dedicated and committed to their communities and have worked to make New Brunswick a more inclusive place for everyone.”

The new members are:

  • William Lloyd Hoyt of Fredericton, recognized for his achievements in law, justice, world peace and community development, with impact locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Richard (Rick) Hutchins of Grand Lake, honoured for his work in community development, music, education and sustainability, which officials say inspires New Brunswickers and contributes to the province’s growth.
  • Dr. Rodney Ouellette of Dieppe, cited for his contributions to cancer research, patient care and the province’s scientific community.
  • Danielle Pelletier of Fredericton, recognized for her dedication to preschool children with autism spectrum disorder and their families, highlighting her leadership and compassion.
  • Cherrill Edwina Shea of Saint John, honoured for her career supporting education and human rights, and her devotion to the province.

There are further details available about each recipient online.

Premier Susan Holt also congratulated the recipients.

“These amazing New Brunswickers have done so much for our province, and seeing them receive this top honour is truly inspiring,” Holt said.

She added that she hopes their achievements will motivate others to contribute to their communities.

The Order of New Brunswick was established in 2002 to honour individuals who have demonstrated excellence and distinguished themselves through achievements in their field.

Since then, 215 people have been invested. Members of this year’s group, the 24th since the order was created, are entitled to use the initials O.N.B. after their names.
