Two residents and two firefighters are recovering after a blaze in a Veinot Street home.
It broke out just after 6 am on Wednesday in the two and a half storey residence.
“The fire began on the outside front porch. There was a porch on the main level and on the second level. When the firefighters arrived on scene, the whole front of the house was on fire,” Deputy Chief Keith Guptill told our newsroom.
Around four people evacuated from the home, while two others had to be rescued by firefighters.
“One was rescued off the third storey and one off the roof. We had to use ground ladders to climb up and save them. The one on the third storey was unresponsive at the time. They were both taken and remain in the hospital with undetermined injuries,” Guptill added.
Firefighters were also able to save a cat from the blaze.
Guptill says the house is a total loss due to smoke, fire and heat damage throughout the residence.
Moncton Fire was on scene for around two hours as they battled the blaze. Guptill says it was a challenging one to fight, “It was very challenging. Some of the entrances are those two patios on the front of the building, and they were compromised. We actually had to get onto the second floor, originally, through the window.”
Around 18 firefighters and three Fire Chiefs were on scene.
The cause is still being determined.
