Schools in the Anglophone East School District are taking part in the annual Great Big Crunch.
Community Engagement Coordinator Heather Stordy says apples from local orchards have been distributed to all schools, and students will be taking a bite.
The Great Big Crunch was founded by Foodshare, a food justice organization that advocates for healthy food and ensuring access, in partnership with the Coalition for Healthy School Food.
It’s a national event on March 7, but because of March Break in New Brunswick, Anglophone East schools are holding it on March 1 instead.
“Basically, everything is just going to stop down in the school and that’s when you’re going to take that big crunch, that’s kind of the hope. We certainly leave it up to the schools but the idea is to get as many folks as possible around that timeframe to crunch down an apple. We’re encouraging photos and videos of that moment,” Stordy says.
Food Depot Alimentaire did apple deliveries to all of the schools this week.
