Restaurant, businesses and apartments destroyed in Bouctouche fire

Fire has destroyed the Dixie Lee restaurant, several businesses and apartments in Bouctouche.

Fire Chief Maurice Belliveau says heavy smoke was coming from the Irving Boulevard building when they arrived at around 10:30 pm Monday.

He adds it didn’t take long before the building was fully engulfed.

Additional crews were called in from the Saint Antoine and Moncton Fire Departments. Around 45 firefighters helped to battle the flames.

“It was a challenging fire because it was an old building with many add-ons, so that made it pretty hard to fight,” Belliveau says.

Luckily, the tenants managed to get out safely.

Fire crews and an excavation crew remained on scene this morning.

“The building is a total loss,” Belliveau says.

There’s no word on a cause yet, but the Fire Chief says it doesn’t appear suspicious.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for some of the tenants who lost their homes in the fire.
