A Lewisville resident is taking steps to help others in immediate need.
Heddy May put up a small pantry last week in front of her house on Barnaby Street for food and hygiene items.
“I’ve been seeing a lot of posts online for people looking for help. I understand there is a bit of a wait when it comes to applying for the food bank. I’d like to think that this is to help neighbours and families in need,” May says.
Inside the pantry, you’ll find dry goods including pasta, rice, beans, granola bars, and hygiene products.
“Anything that you would see in your pantry, and anything that your family eats regularly,” May says.
The pantry was just added last week, and May says they’ve already seen a bit of traffic.
She says others in the neighbourhood have also dropped off donations to add to the pantry.
“My father built this for me as my Christmas gift. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. So Christmas seemed like a nice time to launch that,” May adds.
She has also set up an Amazon wishlist registry for anyone who would like to add items to the pantry by having them shipped to her home.
A Facebook page called Barnaby Street Little Free Pantry has also been launched.
