Keep an eye on pets around Christmas trees

Something for pet owners to think about during the festive season, especially if you have a tree with all of the decorations.

New Brunswick SPCA Chief Animal Protection Officer Tony Porter says you should keep them out of reach.

“Cats and dogs will chew and cats being small can get in under areas and under trees. You need to watch the electrical,” Porter says.

He adds you should also take extra steps to ensure the tree can’t topple over onto your pet because you don’t want any unnecessary injuries at Christmas time.

You shouldn’t let your pet chew on pine needles or decorations.

If you have a cat, tinsel for your tree, isn’t recommended.
