More heavy rain and strong winds to start the week across much of New Brunswick.
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for southern, central and western regions.
Rainfall totals between 30 and 50 millimetres are expected, except locally near 80 millimetres in areas of heaviest rain.
“We’re expecting the heaviest bands of rain to move through this afternoon and this evening,” said Jill Maepea, a meteorologist at Environment Canada.
Maepea said the heaviest rainfall totals are expected in areas of southwestern New Brunswick, along the Fundy coast, and over higher terrain.
Forecasters said similar storms in the past have caused localized flooding, the overflooding of creeks and rivers, and road washouts.
Meanwhile, a wind warning has been issued for southern and central regions of the province.
Maepea said the strongest winds are expected to occur starting early Monday afternoon and continuing until late evening.
“Those winds will be gusting out of the south, likely to 100 kilometres per hour, especially along the Bay of Fundy, but even further inland we’re expecting 90 kilometre per hour winds,” she said.
A similar storm last week left more than 50,000 homes and businesses without electricity, some for several days.
NB Power said it is monitoring the storm and has crews ready to respond if outages occur. The utility encourages customers to have a 72-hour emergency kit ready.
