Seventeen hundred Christmas food boxes will be delivered next week.
They will provide food over the holiday season for those who need it.
Peter McKee Community Centre General Manager Christine Taylor says these boxes will contain a turkey along with other necessities, “The one thing that we’re doing this year, different from last year is, we aren’t offering the hams. Last year we had an option of that or the sandwich meats. We’re just sticking with the turkey this year. So, in the box are potatoes, carrots, stuffing, gravy, a little bit of sweet treats, cookies, and some candies. Then there’s milk, bread, pancake mix, cereal, and a few extra things to get them through for a couple of days.”
Each box is worth around $80.
Volunteers are needed for the deliveries on December 20th.
“Anyone wanting to deliver, just show up at the Moncton Coliseum between noon and five o’clock. There will be people there to tell you what direction to go and how to proceed. You don’t have to register to do the delivery,” Taylor adds.
Donations for the food boxes are still desperately needed. This year’s Sue Stultz and Moncton Firefighters turkey drive collected over 2000 turkeys this year, but that was short of the 3979 needed.
Organizations across Greater Moncton have been struggling to get donations this year. People are finding it more difficult to give due to higher costs.
