Rainbow crosswalks in Memramcook vandalized

Vandalism in Memramcook has shocked Village officials and residents.

The rainbow crosswalks were damaged last week.

Police were immediately notified and an investigation is underway.

“The Village de Memramcook deeply deplores the damage caused to the crosswalks in front of Abbey-Landry School and does not tolerate these acts of discriminatory violence. The municipality will continue to work with authorities to ensure that these incidents do not recur,” says Maxime Bourgeois, the Mayor of the Village de Memramcook.

Officials say a cleanup was done by members of the Abbey-Landry School, the municipality and citizens who joined efforts to rebuild and strengthen our message of unity and acceptance.

They add they condemn these acts and strongly oppose any form of discrimination, hatred or prejudice.
