Man charged with assaulting a police officer

A police officer suffered minor injuries after an assault in front of RCMP headquarters in Moncton.

Officers conducting patrols at around 5:40 a.m. on September 24 noticed a suspicious man on Main Street.

When they approached, the man allegedly charged at them with a crowbar and smashed the police vehicle.

Several other RCMP officers helped to de-escalate the situation and the man was arrested.

A 40-year-old Moncton man is charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon, and mischief to property under $5,000.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on October 11 for a bail hearing.
