SiRT asked to investigate RCMP arrest in St. Stephen

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has been asked to investigate after a man was injured during an arrest in St. Stephen.

Mounties say officers were dealing with an unrelated matter around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when they saw a man on Union Street who they believed had outstanding arrest warrants.

In a news release on Friday, RCMP said the man allegedly ran into the nearby woods but was later located by RCMP Police Dog Services.

Police said the man suffered “minor injuries” during the arrest and was taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment.

“Following further review of the events, the New Brunswick RCMP has referred the incident to SiRT for an independent investigation,” said the news release

Investigators have released no further details about the arrest or the outstanding warrants the man allegedly had against him.
