An area behind the Peter McKee Community Centre has been converted into a flower garden.
It’s part of a larger garden project, that now includes both food and flowers.
Executive Director Christine Taylor says with an increase in homelessness and drug use in downtown Moncton, many are afraid to go walking in the parks anymore.
She feels this new garden offers a tranquil and safe place to smell the flowers.
“Everyone loves flowers. By providing this to the community, we know that if we all stick together and work together that we’ll get through the difficulty that our city is enduring right now,” Taylor says.
All of the flowers and garden ornaments were either purchased or donated by MacArthur’s Flowers or from the community.
“We’re okay if people want to just come in and add to it in the way of flowers as well,” Taylor adds.

Currently, the garden is open Monday to Friday from 8-4 pm, until the end of August.
“Hopefully next year we can apply for a grant and we’ll be able to add more security and have it open on the weekends and have it open a little bit longer so everyone can enjoy it,” Taylor says.
Cliff Nzombato is this year’s Garden coordinator, and Taylor says he wants to grow 50, 000 pounds of food in their Community Garden this season.
