Cat missing from Ottawa area found in Fredericton

How did a missing cat from the Ottawa area end up more than 1,000 kilometres away in Fredericton?

Officials at the Oromocto and Area SPCA said the answer remains a complete mystery.

Birdie was brought in this week after hanging around Fredericton for several months.

“A group of lovely young people have been feeding her when she would come around,” the SPCA said in a social media post.

Staff discovered Birdie had a microchip and learned it was registered to someone just outside of Ottawa.

That was when they found out that Birdie went missing in the Ottawa area a year ago.

“Microchips work…and here’s the proof!” the SPCA said in its social media post.

In the meantime, Birdie will make her way back to Ottawa later this week.
