Artwork initiative fosters community and creativity

A new initiative looks to spark creativity, build community and energize downtown Moncton.

The newest program from Downtown Moncton Centre-ville Inc. (DMCI) is called “Accent! Downtown Moncton Centre-ville”.

The idea is to enhance the downtown area’s aesthetics and incorporate art into the daily lives of locals and visitors.

DMCI Executive Director Patrick Richard said the inaugural initiative is a window mural series designed to showcase local artists and their creations.

Their vibrant artworks will be featured in storefronts that are either not fully utilized or undergoing renovations. The project emphasizes the summer spirit of downtown Moncton through its captivating imagery

“We have a few buildings identified as of right now, so we have property on St. George Street, a couple on Main, and even one on Foundry Street in the downtown,” said Richard.

DMCI officials named the program “Accent!” to emphasize Moncton’s downtown area.

Richard also said submissions are now open for the window mural series. Children, youth and community members of all ages may submit artwork to be digitally reproduced as a printed window wrap.

He also said businesses can also apply to have the murals displayed on their buildings.

“Minimum of four, probably five or six different properties showcased throughout the downtown for the first series,” added Richard.
