Acadie Rock Festival unites inclusivity and diversity

An estimated 10,000 visitors are expected to attend Moncton’s Acadie Rock Festival later in August.

Festival Director Xavier Richard said the 13th annual festival will have a diverse lineup of artists, including musicians, poets and drag performers.

“Acadie Rock is all about presenting new things, new ideas, and new bands. Our event revolves around inclusivity and diversity. I can’t push those two words enough,” said Richard.

“It’s all about the underground music, discovering new things, learning new things, either through art, through drag, and through music.”

The week-long event from Aug. 13 to 18 will feature a mixture of Canadian performers from all walks of life, including musician and songwriter Max Bujold of Fall River, N.S., Cocagne poet Rose Despres, Cuban singer Dee Hernandez, and Indigenous singer-songwriter Elisapie of Salluit, Que.

Richard also said volunteers are welcome to help throughout the week or for a few days.
