Moncton business relocating after 35 years downtown

A longtime business in Moncton’s downtown is relocating to the north end.

Brunswick Optical will close its doors on St. George Street on August 1, as it prepares to move into a larger spot on Horsman Road.

Optometrist Monic Nadeau Boudreau says the business was started in 1971, and they have been at the current location for the past 35 years.

She says their downtown location has been very accessible to clients but feels the new location will also offer a lot of convenience being so close to the highway, “North Moncton is also booming for businesses.”

“We asked a lot of patients and clients their thoughts on the move and at least 90 per cent were quite positive,” Nadeau Boudreau adds.

She says the new location will also offer more parking.

Some businesses on St. George Street have expressed concerns over crime and the homeless population, as of late. We asked Nadeau Boudreau if this had any impact on her decision to move the business out of the downtown, “Not necessarily because I did look into staying downtown because I do like the downtown location. There was nothing really available for what we needed. So that’s how we ended up on Horsman Road.”

With the expansion, Nadeau Boudreau says they are also adding a second Optometrist.

Their current location will close its doors on August 1, and they’ll reopen in the new location on August 12.
