Man arrested after hours-long police operation in Fredericton

It was a tense few hours Thursday for some residents of Fredericton’s Nashwaaksis neighbourhood.

They were told to stay inside with locked doors during a police operation in the north side neighbourhood.

Police say at around 12:15 p.m., they learned a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant and known to be armed and dangerous was in the city.

Officers descended on a residence in the Maple Street area, where the man was believed to be, and secured the scene.

The individual was taken into custody several hours later and the shelter-in-place order was lifted around 6:40 p.m. Thursday.

Police said more details will be provided once the individual appears in court. No word yet on what charges he may face.
