Anglophone East School District confident in school bus transportation

The Anglophone East School District is responding to the auditor general’s report on student transportation.

Paul Martin said that despite an extensive audit in 2001, several compliance gaps remain.

Martin and his team performed a detailed audit in four districts: Anglophone South, Anglophone West, Anglophone East, and Francophone South.

“We noted several instances of non-compliance with legislation, including driver licensing requirements, appropriate driver abstracts, criminal record checks, physical fitness, and bus driver training,” Martin said.

Anglophone East School District Finance and Administration Director Aubrey Kirkpatrick told members of the District Education Council this month that they are confident in their transportation department.

“They do a fantastic job day in and day out. We’re travelling over 2.4 million kilometres a year, and we do it without incident and do it under some challenging conditions.”

He adds that they welcome any audit because it can help them improve.

“We are 100 per cent confident that every person that drives the bus has gone through the proper channels. 100 per cent confident that they have the criminal record checks. They have their driver’s licenses and all the appropriate endorsements or abstracts, all of that has to be in place before we allow anybody behind a wheel, and we work with human resources to make sure that that happens.”

Over 12,000 Anglophone East students are transported to school every day using school bus transportation.
