2 men die at popular N.B. waterfall

Two men from India have died after being pulled from the water near a popular New Brunswick waterfall, according to police.

RCMP Cpl. Hans Ouellette said they responded to a report of two people in medical distress in a river at Gibson Falls around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

“When first responders arrived, they recovered a 21-year-old man from the river and attempted medical life-saving measures. The man died at the scene as a result of his injuries,” said Ouellette.

“A second 24-year-old man, who also died at the scene as a result of his injuries, was recovered from the water [on Tuesday] with the assistance of the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team.”

Fire crews from Elgin, Petitcodiac and Sussex also responded to the scene, along with Ambulance NB.

Ouellette said criminality is not believed to be a factor at this time.
