Man dies after being tasered by police near Shediac

A man’s death near Shediac is now under investigation by an independent police watchdog.

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) said first responders were dispatched to a medical call on May 29.

RCMP officers were also called to the home to assist paramedics, according to the police watchdog.

“An altercation ensued between police and the male and a taser was deployed,” SiRT said in a news release.

The unidentified man went into medical distress and was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

SiRT investigates all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, or other matters of public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer.
