Seven people have been charged in what police are calling a violent kidnapping and assault in western New Brunswick.
Mounties said they responded to a report of a kidnapping and assault in Tobique First Nation on April 29.
A 54-year-old woman from Florenceville-Bristol was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint, held against her will, and assaulted.
“She was treated at hospital with significant, but non-life-threatening injuries, and has since been released,” RCMP said in a news release.
A search warrant was executed at a home in Tobique First Nation on Monday and police arrested seven people since then.
They include six people from Tobique First Nation, ranging in age from 27 to 36 years old, and a 56-year-old from Tilley.
A total of 62 charges have been laid, including kidnapping, extortion, assault, assault causing bodily harm, administering a noxious substance, forcible confinement, possessing a prohibited firearm, pointing a firearm, and careless use of a firearm.
All seven people have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to return to court separately beginning Thursday.
