A New Brunswick college wants to get more trained nurses into the health-care system more quickly.
Oulton College in Moncton announced the launch of an accelerated three-year nursing degree on Monday.
“Our new BScN program is a testament to our commitment to preparing the next generation of nursing leaders,” Darcie Reidpath, the college’s president, said in a news release.
Reidpath said graduates will be able to enter the health-care workforce one year ahead of the traditional four-year nursing education trajectory.
This will be the first degree program to be offered at a college in New Brunswick, according to officials at Oulton.
Officials said the program will offer more than 1,700 hours of hands-on experience, including more than 1,300 hours dedicated to clinical settings.
This, the college said, will ensure students are deeply experienced in real-world nursing scenarios, in addition to being academically prepared.
“With an emphasis on clinical excellence and practical exposure, our BScN program ensures that students graduate as highly competent, compassionate, and confident nursing professionals ready to make a significant impact,” Sherri Rudolph, the college’s nursing director, said in the release.
The program will start in the 2024-25 academic year in September.
