Funding from the City of Moncton will allow for repairs and renovations at the House of Nazareth shelter on Albert Street.
They’ll receive $112, 500 for the grant years 2022, 2023, and 2024.
That amount was approved at a Committee of the whole meeting of Moncton City Council this week.
In response to past issues of organizational governance and safety at the House of Nazareth, City
Council withheld the approved grant funding for this organization until receipt of an operational
plan for the facility that provides
On December 8, 2023, an operational plan and a new strategic plan were received.
Work includes repairs to the heating and ventilation system, fence, emergency exits, and roof. Quotes were also provided for painting, workshop equipment, pest control, creating a second-floor dormitory, installing fire doors, and constructing a new storage room and workshop area.
Deputy Mayor Shawn Crossman, Councillor Dave Steeves and Councillor Paul Richard voted against the motion for the retroactive grants.
This must be voted on again at the upcoming Moncton City Council meeting on May 6.
