Dredging work at 2 eastern N.B. harbours

Federal funding is coming for dredging work t two small craft harbours in eastern New Brunswick.

They include Pointe-Sapin Harbour, southeast of Miramichi, and McEachern’s Point Harbour in Tabusintac.

Officials said the critical work will remove sediment to allow fish harvesters free passage in and out of the harbour.

The two harbours accommodate about 120 commercial vessels for the yearly lobster fisheries, according to Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

DFO said it is working to ensure that dredging contracts are awarded and work begins as soon as possible.
