Dieppe honours volunteers during Les Chalins gala

Several people have been recognized by the City of Dieppe as part of National Volunteer Week.

The city’s Volunteers of the Year were honoured Wednesday night during the Les Chalins gala.

The event was named after the Acadian word, chalins, which means a flash of light that illuminates the sky.

Eight volunteers were recognized in seven different categories: seniors; sports and recreation; francophonie and culture; environment; community involvement; involvement by a newcomer; and youth involvement.

“Dieppe is able to offer a dynamic community life precisely because of the contribution of volunteers in many sports, cultural and community activities,” said Mayor Yvon Lapierre.

The winners for 2024 are as follows:

  • Seniors: Germaine Maillet
  • Sports and recreation: Rachele Roper
  • Francophonie and culture: Julie Leblanc-Hultberg
  • Environment: Richard Perron
  • Community involvement: Josiane Cormier
  • Involvement by a newcomer: Isaac and Josh Quiros
  • Youth involvement: Antoine Vautour

“Congratulations to all winners and nominees, and a huge thank you for your exceptional work and generous, unreserved dedication,” said Lapierre.
