Wildcats eliminated from QMJHL playoffs

A first-round exit for the Moncton Wildcats in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League playoffs.

Moncton fell to the host Chicoutimi Saguenéens 5-2 on Wednesday night.

The Saguenéens swept the best-of-seven first-round series in four games.

Both teams finished the regular season with nearly identical records.

Moncton (38-23-4-3) was sixth with 83 points while Chicoutimi (35-25-4-4) was ninth with 78 points.

Elsewhere in QMJHL playoff action, the Saint John Sea Dogs were also eliminated Wednesday night after falling to Drummondville 8-1 in game four.

Meanwhile, in what many describe as an upset, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan beat the Halifax Moosehead 3-2 to sweep the first-round series in four games.
