Memramcook amends rural plan to allow tourist accommodations

Memramcook councillors are taking steps they hope will help boost the local economy and tourism activity in the region.

Council recently approved a rural plan amendment allowing tourist accommodations in the Resource Development zone.

Mayor Maxime Bourgeois said tourist accommodations are a vital element in shaping the village’s image among travellers.

“By adapting our municipal strategies, we will not only foster growth in the tourism sector but also motivate initiatives that contribute to creating enriching and authentic experiences, making Memramcook a choice destination,” Bourgeois said in a news release.

The growing popularity of tourist accommodations in rural areas has revolutionized the tourism industry by offering a greater variety and immersive experiences outside urban areas, said the release.

Village officials said this represents a great opportunity for both the municipality’s visibility and that of promoters offering personalized experiences.

Bourgeois said this decision will help attract visitors to the community, boost the local economy and showcase Memramcook’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
