RCMP seeking possible sexual assault victims dating back to 2007

An 82-year-old man is now in custody in connection with alleged sexual assault incidents in Moncton dating back over 15 years.

James Cunningham was arrested in Alberta last month. A warrant for his arrest was issued in 2021.

A year prior, in September 2020, police received reports involving a minor and a man who was 66 years old at the time.

The incidents allegedly occurred in the Moncton region between April 2007 and 2010.

Cunningham is charged with two counts of sexual assault and four counts of sexual interference.

RCMP is seeking other possible victims.

“This is still an active and ongoing investigation, and we are working diligently to determine if there were other victims,” says Sgt. Jonathan White with the Codiac Regional RCMP. “We want people to know that there is no statute of limitations on reports of sexual assault, and a report can be made at any time no matter how far back the assault occurred. If you are a victim, please contact us. You will be listened to and you will be believed.”

If you have information, contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400. If you have information that may assist the investigation and would like to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
