Man charged after Minto shooting incident

RCMP say a 53-year-old man has been charged after a shooting incident in Minto prompted an emergency alert.

Police say they responded to a home on Pleasant Drive in the community around 4:10 p.m. Sunday.

They learned that a man had fired several shots toward a second man before fleeing the scene.

“No one was injured during the incident,” RCMP said in a news release issued on Monday afternoon.

Just over an hour later, police issued an Alert Ready message telling people to stay inside and lock their doors.

Shortly after 6 p.m., police received a tip from the public that the man was possibly in the Chipman area.

“Police attended and located the suspect’s vehicle which initially failed to stop,” said the release.

“A short time later, the vehicle stopped and police arrested a 53-year-old man at the scene.”

The accused, who is from Minto, is charged with attempted murder, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and eight firearms-related charges.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 8.
