The Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces have confirmed the identity of another unknown soldier from the First World War.
Arthur Davidson Melvin was born on June 3rd 1887 in Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1901.
He worked as a pipefitter until enlisting in May of 1915, and was deployed to France one year later.
He attained the rank of Sergeant and participated in the assault on Vimy Ridge, however during the effort to clear and hold the village the Thélus he was reported missing and later presumed dead on April 9th 1917, at the age of 29.
He is interred at the Bois-Carré British Cemetery near the village where he fell in battle, his headstone is to be rededicated during a ceremony to be held at the earliest opportunity.
