Investigators in Manitoba are working to identify the victims of the horrific crash that has killed at least 15 people and sent another 10 to the hospital.
Manitoba RCMP have been in discussions with their counterparts in Saskatchewan who have experience dealing with a similar tragedy, the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.
Yesterday’s crash has people looking back to the terrible accident in 2018 that killed 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team and injured another 13. In the days following the Humboldt crash, a victim was wrongly identified. Officers in Manitoba are trying to avoid making the same mistake.
The crash happened yesterday morning when a semi-truck travelling Eastbound on Manitoba’s highway 1 near Carberry, collided with a passenger bus travelling Southbound and carrying 25 people, most of them seniors. Reports indicate the people on the bus were from Dauphin, located about two hours North of Carberry. They were supposedly headed to a casino.
Carberry is located roughly two and a half hours West of Winnipeg. It can be seen in the above map marked with a red pin (Source: google Maps).
The RCMP in Manitoba have set up a family support centre in Dauphin. Officers are posted there who can answer questions for families who are concerned. Families can also call the support centre at 204-647-5058.
