N.B. NDP launch leadership election period

Members of the New Brunswick NDP are searching for the party’s next leader, officials announced Friday.

An election period will launch on May 31 and continue until the party’s leadership convention on Sept. 30.

The NDP are looking for a leader who will “champion the values and aspirations of the party, advocate for progressive policies, and inspire positive change across New Brunswick.”

“The NB NDP remains dedicated to fostering a transparent and fair election, ensuring that all members have a meaningful opportunity to engage, contribute, and exercise their democratic rights,” the party said in a news release.

Alex White, who ran under the party’s banner in the 2018 and 2020 provincial elections, has been serving as interim leader since late last June.

His appointment came after former leader Mackenzie Thomason stepped down due to internal comments among executive members.
