Fire at school considered suspicious

RCMP and the New Brunswick Office of the Fire Marshall are investigating a suspicious fire at Petitcodiac Regional School.

Petitcodiac Fire Chief Craig Ramsay says when they arrived on the scene at around 4:20 am Thursday morning, they found light smoke coming from the elementary area of the facility.

“The sprinkler system had been activated. Fire and smoke damage was contained to one room. Sections of the first-floor sustained water damage,” Ramsay adds.

The school was closed Thursday as staff evaluated the damage.
