Renovations Complete In Sackville Memorial Hospital Emergency Department

Five months’ worth of renovations to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Emergency department has been completed.

Horizon Health Network says it will reopen in its original space with daily hours from 8 am to 4 pm next week.

The work that cost around $400,000 included repairs from flooding damage that happened in September 2022.

“The flooding caused extensive damage to the floor and ceiling of the ED and forced us to close it and move patients to another part of the hospital,” said Jeff Carter, Vice President of Capital Assets, Operations and Infrastructure. “While it was closed, we took the chance to modernize the space, focusing on brightening up patient care areas and the nursing station.”

Recruitment of nurses and doctors continues in an effort to restore 24/7 services in the ED.

“Modern work environments are a selling point when we are recruiting staff and physicians. This, along with our work with the Rural Health Action Group, will help us recruit more healthcare professionals to vibrant rural small towns, like Sackville,” said Margaret Melanson, Horizon’s Interim President and CEO.
