Man Found Dead After Saint John Fire

Police say an investigation is underway after a fatal fire in Saint John on Thursday evening.

Emergency crews were called to Midwood Avenue, off Red Head Road, around 8:50 p.m.

Firefighters arriving on the scene found a detached garage of a residence engulfed in flames.

“The victim, an 85-year-old man, was found inside the garage and pronounced dead at the scene,” Saint John police said in a news release on Friday.

No one else was hurt and the firefighters kept the flames from spreading to the main house.

A joint investigation is underway involving the Saint John Police Force’s Major Crime Unit, the Saint John Fire Department and Coroner’s office.
